What Is Spiral

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Following on the success of Pyxis 2, Spiral SDK is UI library for smaller NETMF devices. The initial release is targeted specifically at the FEZ Panda II (based on the USBizi) with the FEZ Touch module (240x320 LCD with Touch Screen). With a total cost of $79.90 (USD + Shipping) this combination makes an excellent starter package for those just entering the world of NETMF or with small requirements. Of course, the FEZ Panda II isn't nearly powerful enough to run something as large as Pyxis 2.

Details and Demo SDK after the jump.

Spiral SDK Emulation

So, in response to requests from the community, we've been developing an alternative to run on smaller devices such as the FEZ Panda II and plans to support the FEZ Domino and Netduino Plus in the future. (Note: Both the FEZ Domino and Netduino Plus will require a different screen, most likely the tiny Color LCD Shield or the powerful [read: expensive] Touch Shield Slide.)

Available Features

  • Controls: Checkbox, CommandButton, Form, Label, ListBox, Progressbar, RadioButton
  • Streaming of large images from uSD
  • Indexed image support
  • Draw/Fill Lines, Rectangles, and Ellipses
  • Font rendering (In Region & Centering supported)
  • Transparency support (Rectangles, Ellipses, Text)
  • LCD Backlight control
  • More to come

An emulator only SDK is currently available for download here.

Note: Not all features are currently supported in the emulator demo; however all listed controls and touch interface are running.
